Let's Kick Poverty so Everyone gets Home!
Ruhl&Ruhl Realtors Dubuque office has a vision; a vision where all families have access to safe and affordable housing in their community. Though it sounds impossible to some, by teaming up with the community they are taking steps to kick poverty once and for all – with a charity kickball tournament. "You always hear the story of someone born into poverty who builds themselves up and achieves greatness," said Jeff Hefel, Managing Broker at the Ruhl&Ruhl Realtors Dubuque Office. "You rarely hear the story of the person born into poverty that doesn't know how to help themselves. These are the people who struggle for generations and will always rent or stay with family and friends. These are the people that we want to help." The first annual charity kickball tournament will raise money for three local non-profits. All proceeds raised will benefit The Circles Initiative, Cedar Valley Friends of the Family and the Dubuque/Jackson Co. Habitat for Humanity. The goal of the kickball tournament is not only to raise money but to also raise awareness. Each of the charities has a mission that aligns with these goals. Why kickball? "It's fun!" said Hefel. "We wanted to do something that doesn't require a lot of skill but the community could get involved in." The kickball tournament will take place on Saturday, August 29th from 9am-5pm at Veteran's Memorial Park (2700 Northview Drive, Dubuque, IA). Teams will consist of 10-14 players.
